Donald Robert King, 73, previously from Champaign, IL, passed peacefully at home at the Arbors at Delaware (OH) on September 22, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. King was born on August 1, 1944, in Marion, Ohio, son of the late Florence (Beckel) (King) Cooke and the late Robert King. He lived most of his childhood in upstate New York. Mr. King graduated from Red Hook Central School, Red Hook, NY, in 1962 and attended the State University of New York at Albany for two years.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1964 and served in various locations, including the Republic of Viet Nam, until 1969. Mr. King was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. He was discharged honorably in 1969 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. King settled in Champaign, IL, after his discharge and worked at Kraft Foods for thirty-three years until his retirement in 2002.
In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his brother Ralph King. He is survived by his sister Miriam (King) (Crowley) Cover of Enfield, CT; his sister-in-law Marlene (Ken) Heimlich of Cardington, OH; a half-sister Gladys (George) Pollard of Red Hook, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Mr. King will be cremated and then interred in both Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo, IL, next to his companion and life partner Stanley Clark, and Howard and Anita Clark (Stanley's parents), and in Glendale Cemetery in Cardington, OH, next to his brother Ralph King.
Arrangements will be handled by Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington, OH. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
