Norman Lang Obituary

Norman E. Lang, beloved husband, father and grandfather, age 89 of Cardington passed away on March 31, 2024, surrounded by his family at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware. He was born on August 19, 1934, in Randolph County Indiana to the late Ralph and Edith (Brockway) Lang.

Norman was a 1952 graduate of Gray High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Norman then went on to receive an associate degree in Jr. Accounting. He had worked for New York Central, Penn Central, and later worked as a train dispatcher for 44 years for Conrail Railroad until his retirement. After retirement, Norman worked in the sporting goods department at the Delaware Wal-Mart for an additional 18 years.

Norman enjoyed fishing, gardening, and listening to music. He liked to watch tv shows, his favorites were Mastermind, John Wayne westerns and Jeopardy. He once even tried out to be on Jeopardy. Norman also sang in the Holiday Chorus at the Palace Theater in Marion for several years.

On April 16, 1954, Norman married Mary Ellen (Kellams) in Modoch, IN., she survives in Cardington.

Left to cherish Norman's memory is his wife Mary Ellen, his children: Debbie Shire of Marion, Jayne Lang of Delaware, Cheryl (Dennis) Carver of Mount Gilead, Rex (Anamaria) Lang of Marengo, and Pam (David) Eichhorn of San Antonio, TX., fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his son Jeff Lang, his son-in-law Gary Shire, grandson Brian Lang, as well as his siblings Ralph Lang Jr, Murray Lang. Lucille Lang, Marcile Payne, and Betty Sandoe.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will directly follow at 4:00 PM.
