Richard J. Lowther, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away Sunday March 31, 2024, at the age of 88, at Presidential of Marion. He was born on May 18, 1935, in Cardington to the late Clarence W. and Ruth E. (Mowles) Lowther.
Richard was a 1953 graduate from Cardington-Lincoln High School. He was a member of Fairview Global Methodist Church and for many years served as a trustee.
Richard was a lifelong farmer. He owned one of the first self-propelled John Deere combines in the county. He loved his dog and cattle, he started with dairy cattle and transitioned to beef cattle. Richard loved his family, especially his granddaughter.
On December 23, 1953, Richard married Judith Ann (Witter) in Cardington, she survives in Ashley.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter Deborah (Robert) Statler of Johnsville, granddaughter Katie Statler and nephews Jack, Roger, and Bob Lowther.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister Laura Snyder and two brothers Dale and Ralph Lowther.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the start of the funeral service that will begin at 11:00 AM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with Pastor Victoria Troutman and Pastor Jerrie Bell-Brion officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
