Robert E. Gompf

Robert E. Gompf

Robert E. Gompf has been a licensed funeral director since July 1949. During that time, he has been associated with Curl Funeral Home in Cardington and Gompf Funeral Service. Bob served his two-year funeral director’s apprenticeship under Shaw Davis Funeral Home in Columbus and Curl Funeral Home in Cardington. He completed his schooling for embalmer’s licensing at Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1949. He was associated with the Curl Funeral Home in Cardington until 1981. When a tornado destroyed the funeral home Bob took ownership and the funeral home was moved to the current location.

Bob has 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  He is active in the Cardington First United Methodist Church, the Jenkins-Vaughan American Legion Post # 97 and the Cardington Rotary Club. In 1999 Bob was honored by the Ohio Funeral Directors for 50 years of service. Even though Bob’s son, Gene purchased the business in 1993 Bob continues to serve the needs of families on a regular basis.

Gene L. Gompf completed his education at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1985. After serving his apprenticeship under his father, Robert Gompf, he received his license as both a funeral director and embalmer in May 1986. In January 2013, Gene was awarded the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (C.F.S.P), by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.

Gene is active in the community. He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a Lions Club member, serves on the Hospice of Morrow County Board of Directors, Morrow County Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Morrow County Hospital Ethics Committee to name a few. All of these activities are in addition to being the dedicated father of five children and nine grandchildren.

LeAnne S. Gompf received her Funeral Director’s license in November 1990. She served her two year apprenticeship under her father-in-law, Robert Gompf and her husband, Gene. LeAnne describes her duties as Public Relations. She is involved in many community activities including Kiwanis and serves as Key Club advisor to the Mt. Gilead High School. She was the chairperson and director of the Morrow County Junior Miss Scholarship program for over 20 years. She is active in Trinity United Methodist Church, and served as chairman for the Gilead Christian School fund raising auction for 12 years. She is the mother of five children and she is enjoying her role as Nana to nine grandchildren.


Michalene N. Gompf-Oates

Michalene Gompf-Oates is the first of the third generation to enter the funeral service arena. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in December 2002 from Bowling Green State University majoring in Journalism and Telecommunications with a minor in Psychology. Michalene served her Funeral Director’s Apprenticeship under her father, Gene. She received her Funeral Director’s license in September 2005. Michalene is the proud parent of very active child, Makenna.

The oldest of the five Gompf children, Michalene has been active in community and church activities from her earliest recollections. Some of her activities included church choir and youth group, dance, high school sports, serving as a Big Sister with the Big Brother and Big Sister Organization and of course, hauling all those younger siblings everywhere.

Gregory J. Gompf is the second of the third generation to enter the family business. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in May 2007 from The University of Toledo majoring in Communication. While at Toledo Greg was a four-year varsity letterman on the baseball team. Greg served his two-year apprenticeship and obtained his funeral directors license in January 2012 under his father, Gene.

The middle of five Gompf children, Greg has been active among the community and is involved with a variety of groups helping when he can. He currently sits as the board president for Gilead Fitness in Mount Gilead. Greg also works as a NCAA Division I FCS Referee in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and is a class I Ohio High School Football Official. He was the head varsity baseball coach at Mount Gilead High School from 2007-2018.

Greg married his wife Morgan (Crooks) in 2016, they live in Cardington with their daughter Ellie June and 3 dogs: Olive, Finn & Marlow.

Greg currently runs Gompf Monuments where his goal is, “to provide lasting and affordable monuments for families.”



Geoffrey H. Gompf

Geoffrey H. Gompf is the third of the third generation to join the family business. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from The Ohio State University. In 2016, Geoffrey began a two-year apprenticeship under his dad, Gene. While working on this funeral director’s apprenticeship, Geoffrey also attended Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and received his degree in Mortuary Science in 2018.

The youngest of five Gompf children, Geoffrey is currently on the Ohio Funeral Directors Association Board of Directors as the North Central Regional Director.  He is active in Mount Gilead Lion’s Club and serves on the Keep Morrow County Beautiful Board. 

Geoffrey enjoys working alongside his brother Greg, with Gompf Monuments.

In 2017, Geoffrey married his wife Whitney with whom he has two children, a son, Grier, a daughter, Peri and two Labrador retrievers, Wrangler and Willie. When he’s not working in the fall, you can find him enjoying Ohio State football, cheering on his Buckeyes. 



Kim Paugh

Kim Paugh is our Aftercare and Pre-planning Specialist. She received her Associate Degree in Office Administration from Central Ohio Technical College, her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Argosy University. Before moving into the funeral profession, Kim spent more than 25 years providing outstanding customer service in the retail and insurance industries. She has taken her customer service skills to the next level by providing compassionate and informative care to families who desire to plan ahead for end-of-life needs.

 

Kim enjoys helping families plan and prepare in advance for their funeral plans. Her wealth of experience as a funeral professional allows her to give the families, she serves expert guidance and advice in all aspects of advance planning.

 

Kim was born and raised in Mount Vernon, OH on a farm and is a true country girl at heart. She and her husband, Jeff, have 4 fur babies (Romeo, Benji, Hammy & Brutus). Kim loves her family and spends as much time with them as possible. Her hobbies include baking, enjoying the outdoors (especially the beach) and her animals.


April Davis

Office Administrator/Certified Grief Facilitator

 

April Davis is our office Administrator. April is also a Certified Grief Facilitator; her passion is helping others find healing during their grief journey. April and her husband Andrew have three children Ashton, Aaliyah, and AnneMarie. April and her family attend Fusion Ministries where she is the Women’s Ministry Director and on the Media/Sound Team. April is the head Cheer Coach for the River Valley Youth Cheerleading program.  She enjoys watching football, crafting, and spending as much time as she can with her family and friends.


Dan Hershner

Dan Hershner is on staff as an all-around helper and does whatever he can to lend a helping hand. He is a 1972 graduate of Northmor High School and went on to graduate from Northcentral Technical College in 1973. Dan has worked at HPM, Mt. Gilead Lumber, and Levering Brothers. His most substantial employment was with Ohio Edison from 1978-1996 and then Consolidated Electric from 1996-2016 when he retired. Dan and his wife Cindy (Dix), married in 1974, have 2 children: Chad and Autumn and 2 grandchildren. They enjoyed raising their family in Mt. Gilead, where they still reside today. Dan has been a long-time member of the Mt. Gilead Lion’s Club and the Mt. Gilead Church of Christ. Dan enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid outdoorsman. 


Jay Haycook

Funeral Assistant

Jay Haycook is part of our support team and all-around helper. He graduated from Cardington in 1972 and from Marion Tech with a business degree in 1975. He worked at Kinsell Foods for 18 years. From there he went to Pillsbury/General Mills for 28 years where he retired in 2016.  Jay married to his wife Dianna in 1984, has 3 children and one grandson. Jay has been a lifetime resident of Cardington. 


Monty Maceyko

Funeral Assistant

Monty Maceyko is also one of our all-around helpers at Gompf Funeral Service. A 1992 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School, Monty earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in History from the University of Dayton in 1996 then went on to earn a teaching certificate from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2003 and a Master’s Degree in Library Science in 2008. Monty has previously worked for the Ohio Historical Society, Highland Local Schools, Elgin Local Schools and is currently employed as a school library/media specialist for Westerville City Schools. 


A lifelong resident of Cardington, Monty lives with his wife Stephania along with their two children Quinn and Kennedy. In his spare time Monty enjoys traveling, visiting historical sites, reading, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Michigan State Spartans, and Dayton Flyers.


Nick Cochran

Nick Cochran has lived in Morrow County all his life and is a 1972 graduate of Cardington High School. After school, he was employed at Marion Power Shovel as a machinist. While he was still working for the Power Shovel, he also worked part-time for the U.S. Postal Service. He became a full-time letter carrier for the Postal Service working in Mansfield, Cardington, and Westerville offices. He completed his 38-year career as a letter carrier in June of 2022. After his retirement, he and his stepson, Aaron, have enjoyed restoring classic cars and attending car shows. He is also a member of the Grace Community Fellowship in Radnor, where he serves as a deacon.

He and his wife, Kathi, have been married for 23 years. Nick has 3 children: Steve, Scott, and Stephanie, and two stepsons: Isaac and Aaron. Nick has also been blessed with 9 grandchildren. 


Gary Vance

Gary is part of our support team and all around helped at the funeral home. He is a graduate of River Valley High School, class of 1969. He had worked for the Big Bear grocery store for 11 years and went on to work for the River Valley schools for 37 ½ years until his retirement in 2017.

Gary married his wife, Deborah (Davis) in 1974. Together they have 2 sons, Joshua, and James, as well as 4 grandsons. Gary and his wife attend Grace Baptist Church in Marion. 


Dan Green

Retired Funeral Assistant

Dan Green is our general all around helper. He is always there to lend a hand in whatever way he can. He began working for Robert Gompf at Curl Funeral Home in 1965. After a business career that included being the owner of Green’s Lite Stop in Cardington and the Morrow County Treasurer, Dan has retired and is now working with us.


Nancy J. Grossman

Nancy J. Grossman

Retired Office Administrator

Nancy Grossman was our office Administrator for 7 years until her retirement in 2021. She received her Associate Degree in Accounting from Tiffin University. Nancy had 14 years of experience in accounting before she decided to be a full-time mom. After her 2 children graduated from High School, she returned into the workforce.

Nancy is an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Mother’s Forum and is the Treasurer of Morrow Little Theatre. She was a member and Treasurer of Mt. Gilead Summer Swim Team Commission for several years.
