William "Bill" E. Gardner, age 83 of Marion died Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Marion General Hospital. He was born on September 1, 1938, in Bucyrus to Wilbur and Margaret (Gubernath) Gardner who preceded him in death.
Bill graduated from Martel High school in 1957. Bill served in the Ohio National Guard. He was a lifelong farmer and worked at Marion City Schools as the Facilities Manager for 37 years. Bill was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Bill was a H.A.M.M Radio Operator. He had his pilot license and flew planes. Bill was a longtime OHSAA basketball official. He enjoyed tractor pulls and going to Farm Days with his Antique Tractors. Bill was involved with Key Ministries at the Morrow County Fair.
On June 20, 1965, Bill married Twila Rentschler at the Fairview United Methodist Church, she survives in Marion.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his sister Nancy (Kemp) Weekes of Bucyrus, brother James (Maryellen) Gardner of TN/Arizona, nieces and nephews: Christine (Rodney) Goodman of Upper Sandusky, Kelley (James) Zeis of TN., Patricia (Randall) Perry of TN., Brian (Laura) Seybert of Bucyrus, and Jessica (Richard) Jones of TN.
Friends may call on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 7, 2022, at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Pastor Andy Angel officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Marion Cemetery.
