Wanda I. Parsons, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother age 93 of Prospect, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at Marion Valley Post Acute surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 7, 1933, in Ashley to the late Keith and Maude (Green) Mattix.
Wanda was a 1951 graduate of Ashley High School and devoted over 40 years of service as a cook for Marion City Schools, nurturing countless students with her kindness and care. She had been an active member of Oakland United Methodist Church in Marion.
As a young woman, she married Ralph Parsons Jr., who she loved and cared for until his death.
Wanda enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and spending time with friends at the Marion County Red Hat Society and the Prospect Senior Center. She especially cherished moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in their accomplishments and everyday joys. Wanda will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and community.
Wanda is survived by her loving children: Sam (Angela) Parsons of Marion, Sharon (Thomas) Gary of Prospect and Sheila (Chris) Eber of Marion; nine grandchildren: Steve (Jangyo) Parsons, James (Jacinta) Gary, Aleyna (John) Brodman, Chrisēē (Randy) Roseberry, Jeff (Sabrina) Eber, Jayson (Kylie) Gary, Jeremy (Jamie) Parsons, Shae (Ryan) Craft and Amethyst (Donavon) Christian; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her son Steven Parsons, grandchildren Rebecca Parsons Shack and Melvin Shack, her brother Glen Mattix and her sisters: Donna Wise, Viola Burtis, Luella Clark, and Alice Jacques.
A graveside service for Wanda will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM in Glendale Union Cemetery with Pastor Russell Howard officiating.
