Wallace 'Wally" Lawrence VanDorn

Wallace ‘Wally” L. VanDorn, age 84 of Cardington, died on Friday, February 12, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 22, 1936 in Chesterville, Ohio to the late Leslie and Catherine (Kincaid) VanDorn. 

Wally served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. After his time in the service, he started in the construction field. Wally worked for Mar-Cel Construction laying foundation until his retirement. 

On November 29, 1958 in Queens, NY Wally married Carol C. (Weisenberger) and she survives in Cardington. 

Wally enjoyed a life of hard work and time spent with his loving wife Carol. The time he enjoyed the most was the years after his grandchildren were born. Wally enjoyed spending time with each and everyone of his grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife, Wally is survived by 3 children: Paul (Vickie) VanDorn of Punta Gorda, Fl, Joanne Byrne of Edison, and Donna (Jerry) Shane of Carey; 5 siblings: Mary Adams and June Kohls both of Utah, Eileen Lewis and Donald VanDorn of Ohio and Millie Hahn of North Carolina; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by 5 siblings: Walter, Marion, Marven, Robert VanDorn, and Eva Davenport.

Friends may call on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will begin at the conclusion of visitation at 1:00 PM and the burial will follow in the Glendale Union Cemetery with full military honors. 

In accordance with the Governor’s mandate, masks will now be required to enter the funeral home.
