Valerie Ellen (Chalfant) Holtz

Valerie E. Holtz, age 86 of Dover and formerly of Cardington died on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with her loving family by her side at the Country Club Retirement Campus of Dover. She was born on March 29, 1939, in Mt. Clemens, MI to the late Nelson and Dorothy (Peltier) Chalfant.

Valerie was a 1957 graduate of Cardington Lincoln High School. She then earned her associate's degree, laying a strong foundation for her professional career. She went on to work as an executive assistant, where she was known for her organization, reliability, and attention to detail. Her role allowed her to support leadership teams with professionalism and dedication.

Valerie grew up in Cardington and after marrying her late husband, Jack W. Holtz Sr. moved across the country to different states. Over the years they had lived in Tennessee, Alabama, California before returning to Ohio in 2024.

Valerie enjoyed a wide range of hobbies that reflected her love of both nature and learning. She found peace in camping and traveling, always appreciating the chance to explore new places and spend time outdoors. At home, she took great pride in gardening, especially tending to her flowers, and she delighted in watching birds that visited her yard. She also loved reading, often finding quiet moments with a good book to relax and recharge. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society.


Valerie is survived by her two children: Jill (Jay) Vaughan of Sherrodsville, OH and Sonja Snyder of Sarasota, FL, daughter in laws Christy Holtz of El Paso TX and Maria Lorimer of Lemon Grove CA; sister, Sharon Boger of Cardington; Grandchildren Nick (Katie) Lorimer, Shawna (Travis) Scott, Stacey (Scott) Poloncarz, Jay P. (Lillie) Vaughan, Joshua (Cindy) Holtz, Ashley Holtz, Ethan Holtz, Judith (Javier) Durazo and Ana Silva, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Valerie was preceded in death by 4 children: Stuart Lorimer, M. Randy Lorimer, Jack Holtz Jr and Dannie Jane Phillips; two siblings: Lynn Chalfant and Marilynn Bell; as well as a grandson Aaron Snyder. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM with LeAnne Gompf officiating in the Glendale Union Cemetery, 105 Glendale Street, Cardington, Ohio 43315.
