T.J. (Tom) Powers aged 75, of Cardington, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital Monday, July 20, 2020. T.J. was born February 11, 1945 in Pound, VA to Rev. Arnold and Rosa (Maggard) Powers. They preceded him in death.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, of 54 years, Joyce (Elkins) Powers. He is also survived by his son and best friend, Jeff Powers; 2 great grandchildren, Bryor and Lydia Thacker, whom he loved spending time with; and his 2 dogs, Willy and Mojo, which he loved very much.
T.J. was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Tammy Thacker-Powers, sister Eileen Mullins, sister Maureen Powers and one brother J.C. Powers.
He grew up in Pound, Virginia at the head of Shockey Hollow. He attended Pound High School, Pound, Va.
T.J. was a Vietnam era veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and honorably discharged.
After his military service he and Joyce moved to Delaware, Ohio where he worked for Ranco until retirement.
He had many interests including hunting, fishing, camping, racing dirt track, and all motor sports. After retirement, he and his son Jeff became involved in garden tractor pulling.
T.J. was of Free Will Baptist faith having been a member of Ashley Free Will Baptist Church where he served as treasurer.
T.J. will certainly be missed by his many friends and loved ones.
Friends may call on Friday, July 24, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Service, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Following the service the burial will take place in the Fulton Cemetery. In accordance with the Governor's mandate, mask will now be required to enter the funeral home.
