Sue Friedley Obituary

Sue C. Friedley, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, age 90 of Marion passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Marion General surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 31, 1935, to the late Phillip A. and Doris H. (Naas) Rodgers.

Sue was a 1953 graduate of Fairview High School and later went on to attend Miami University. She was a member of Dayspring Wesleyan where she was the church secretary. She had worked as a secretary for World Gospel Mission in Marion, Indiana and was also a secretary for the many churches her husband pastored.

Sue was known for her card ministry, she would send out 60 cards a month, all handmade. She was thrilled God always provided the postage. She continually heard how blessed people felt to receive her cards. Her card ministry meant so much to her. Sue taught piano lessons for many years, her love for playing the piano and organ helped her become a master at playing and she had the privilege to play at many different churches in Marion. Sue loved cooking and baking and still cooked daily. She enjoyed sewing and made many outfits for her children over the years. Sue was a woman of faith; she would pray everyday and found great peace in her daily devotions. People wanted to be on Sue's prayer list because they felt "God took her seriously."

On October 15, 1955, Sue married the love of her life Walter G. Friedley in Dayton, Ohio, he preceded her in death on December 10, 2008.

Left to cherish Sue's memory are her children: Amy (Merle) Shumway of Indiana, Beth Collins of Marion and Dr. Jonathan Friedley (Megan) of Marion, her seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; her sisters Lynne Hackenberger of Dayton and Pamela (Craig) Jones of Jackson.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Sue was preceded in death by her daughter Polly Sue Goodwin, her grandson Benjamin Lee Goodwin and her brother Robert Rodgers.
