Shirley Jean (Benner) Gilbert

Shirley J. Gilbert, age 82 of Mount Gilead, died on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Woodside Village Care Center. She was born on July 19, 1938, in Marion to the late Chester A. and Helen E. (Mulvane) Benner.

Shirley was a 1956 graduate of the Marion Harding High School. She went on to work many years delivering newspapers. She had also worked at the Morrow County Lanes in Cardington and Plastic Film in Marion.

In her spare time Shirley enjoyed doing drawings for other people, most of whom paid her for her excellent work. She was a big Elvis fan and collected all kinds of memorabilia. Shirley also enjoyed singing and played many instruments as well as roller skating.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children: Jody Gilbert of Cardington and Tammy (Roger) Sayre of Marion; a sister: Pat Postell; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Benny L. Gilbert on October 18, 2015.
