Shelby "Betty" (Mullins) Taylor

April 2, 1937 ~ August 8, 2020 (age 83)


Shelby “Betty” Taylor, age 83 of Cardington, died Saturday, August 8, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 2, 1937 in Dwale, Virginia to the late Carley M. & Hester M. (Francisco) Mullins.

Betty was employed by Ranco for many years making micro-electronics. She was a tough woman and one of great faith. She enjoyed talking with people and had never met a stranger, striking up a conversation with anyone who wanted to talk. Betty enjoyed giving her kids a hard time but loved each one unconditionally, she was cherished by all her children and grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed crafting and liked to sew and crochet.

Survivors include 4 children: Jamie (Deborah) Taylor of Marengo, Carla (Rick) Lanum of Marengo, Danielle (Jeff) Webb of Cardington and Paula Powell of Marengo; four siblings: Fay Holloway, Vivian Ramey, Danny Mullins and Donna Childress all of Clintwood, VA; son-in-law Rick Mahaffey of Cardington; twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two siblings: a brother, Eugene Mullins and sister, Louise Ramey; one daughter, Jeri Mahaffey and a son-in-law, Donald Powell.

To honor Betty’s wishes, no public services will be held. Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington in honored to have been chosen to assist the Taylor family with Betty’s care.
