Shelba Jean (Lester) Childers

Shelba J. Childers, age 77 of Ashley passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 5, 1945, in Marion to Clyde and Evelyn (Adkins) Lester who preceded her in death.

Shelba graduated from Richwood High School in 1964. She had worked for Cigna Insurance as a File Clerk.

Shelba was a member of the Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church in Carey. She Volunteered as a cook at Common Ground Free Store and at one time had been named Volunteer of the Year.

On January 30, 1965, Shelba married William "Henry" Childers in Marion, he survives in Ashley.

In addition to her husband, Shelba is survived by her children: Sherry Melvin of Delaware, Matthew (Robin) Childers of Columbus and Clayton (Leah) Childers of Ostrander; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and her two sisters Betty Wooten of Centerville and Doris (David) McCarty of Marysville.

In addition to her parents, Shelba was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Lester and sister Donna Cochran.

Friends may call on Monday, January 30, 2023from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the funeral home at 11:00. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Westfield Cemetery.
