Russell "Bart" Bartlett Smith

Russell “Bart” Smith, age 67, of Cardington died Sat. Oct. 3, 2020 in the Knox Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1952 in Bladensburg to the Late Russell Bartlett Smith, Sr. and Gladys V. (Schissler) Woosley.

Bart was a 1971 graduate of East Knox High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was named outstanding player in his Sophomore year. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He was a member of both the Eagles and Moose, both in Mt. Vernon.

Bart is survived by his sons, Curt (Chrystal) Smith of Marengo and John (Jessica) Smith of Calhan, CO.; step-son, Anthony “Tony” Thomas of Columbus; grandchildren, Caleb, Madison, and Cassidy Smith; fiancé, Patricia Tipton and her daughter, Elizabeth Ufferman of Cardington; siblings, Janice (George) Harris of Fredericktown, Judy (Pete) Jordan of Cardington, Kathy Davies of Bladensburg, Billie Jo (John) Kuhnkel of Howard, Shirley Ann Mercier of AZ., and Bob (Teresa) Woosley of Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his parents, Bart was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Smith and sister Francie Smith.
