Ruby Lee Faust, born Ruby Lee Elkins, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind the disease that had ravaged her body in recent years. Her strength, faith, and enduring spirit remained evident to the very end.
Ruby was born on May 5, 1931, in the holler of West Virginia, one of thirteen children born to Thomas and Eva Effie Elkins. Her father worked as a coal miner, and like Loretta Lynn-whom Ruby resembled in both spirit and story-she was truly a coal miner's daughter. In her youth, her family moved to Jackson, Ohio, where she was raised and formed the strong roots that would guide her throughout her life.
She later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she met Bill Wolcott. They were married for 17 years and shared important chapters of life together. In time, Ruby found love again and married Larry Faust, whom she met through a mutual connection with Amway. Together, they built a life over 37 years of marriage, working side by side in Larry's construction company, with Ruby supporting and contributing every step of the way.
Ruby was a woman of deep and abiding faith. A devoted Christian, she leaned on her relationship with God through every season of her life. She was also a lover of music and dancing, which she often incorporated into her worship, playing the piano, guitar, and harmonica.
A woman of many talents and interests with an incredible work ethic, Lee held many types of jobs over the years including factory worker, in-home nurse, housekeeper, and construction worker. Lee was the first female to ever work for Dave Thomas, who was co-owner of KFC at the time and later founded Wendy's. She and Bill launched a successful pre-school within their home called the Peppermint Ranch. She and Larry built the Lighthouse Church in Edison, Ohio, where the family enjoyed many years of worship. And, she served faithfully as the county representative for the National Day of Prayer in Morrow County for many years, touching countless lives through her commitment and devotion.
Above all, Ruby was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and family leader whose love extended across generations. She is survived by her children, Teresa, Jeff, and Gregory; by her grandchildren, Jeremy and Dave Greenberg, Blair Wolcott, and Lucinda, Evita, and Lea Wolcott; and by her great grandchildren Austin, Naya, and Bellomy.
Ruby will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery, alongside her husband Larry and Cyrus and Iona Faust.
Her life was one of perseverance, faith, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
May God bless and keep her.
Gompf Funeral Service of Cardington is honored to have been chosen to assist Ruby's family. Condolences may be expressed to her family at www.gompffh.com.
