Obituary

Robert “Pat” Cedar Heart Nichols, age 81 of Cardington passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023. He was born on September 26, 1941, Marion to the late Dale R. and Naomi A. (Dudley) Nichols.

Pat was a 1959 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School. He worked in Community Development with many local towns and counties. Pat had attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Pat was a member of the Munsee Delaware Indian Nation as well as a member of the Cardington Rotary Club. Pat enjoyed genealogy and hunting for Indian Artifacts especially arrow heads. He was a musician for many years and played the bass. Pat loved history and telling stories to anyone who would listen. Pat was known for driving the hearse out of the basement of the Curl Funeral Home after the tornado of 1981.

Pat is survived by his children: Todd (Lisa) Nichols of Indiana, Peter Nichols of Florida, and Jeni (Tim) Wiant of Urbana, two grandchildren: Ian and Clara Wiant, as well as his siblings Peni (Donald) Yoeman of Marion and Terry Nichols of Cardington.
