Robert Robinson Obituary

Robert Eugene Robinson, age 95, passed away Monday morning August 23 at Sunrise Country Manor, Milford, NE. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He loved to read and play cards. He was born December 2, 1925, the 6th child of Dock Sr. and Stella (Angus) Robinson in Washington County, Ohio. Two more children joined the family later.

In 1934 when Bob was 9, his mother passed away. They were living in Marion, OH, then. Bob went to live with an aunt and uncle in Parkersburg, W.Va. Then he came back to Marion area. He worked for farmers out around Meeker.

In 1937 his dad married again; from then on Bob had a second mother. Her name was Viola. She brought with her three children.

Bob dropped out of school after 8th grade to earn what he could to help feed their family.

In 1944 he joined the Navy: 2-28-1944 to 5-24-1946 for his first tour. Between tours he helped his dad with logging. He rejoined the Navy 12-16-1949 to 10-29-1953. He served on the CORAL SEA, an aircraft carrier.

When he was honorably discharged, he came back to Cardington and worked for his brother at the SOHIO Station by the bridge.

A short time after he came home, he was hired at Marion Engineer Depot as a firefighter- guard. He worked with quite a few men from Cardington: Leo Bingman, Bill Nusser, Dick Orewiler, and Elzo (Connie) Rogers. After that depot closed, he went over to Scioto Depot. We went into business on our own. We were hardly making ends meet.

His oldest sister lived in Calif, and while visiting told Bob that he probably could get a Civil Service job out there.

We left for California on August 10th and arrived in Ojai at his sister's house August 13th. He went to work the day after Labor Day. He was based at Point Mugu Naval Station. The first four and a half years he worked out on San Nicholas Island, flew out on Monday and back Friday. November 1981, he retired with 30 years of service.

We moved back to Cardington November 1982. We moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2018 to be near two of our sons.

Robert is survived by his spouse, Shirley (Fowble) Robinson, sons Robert and wife Cecelia Robinson, Linn Allen Robinson, and James D Robinson; granddaughters, Shosheana Seyl, Taryn Miller, and grandson, Nicholas Robinson; great granddaughters, Courtney & Brittany Seyl, and Kiaye Kelly, and great grandson, Chancellor Seyl; brother Clarence and wife Carol Robinson, sister-in-law Geraldine and husband Doug Osborne, sisters-in-law Helen Fowble and Patty Robinson, and many nieces and nephews.
