Robert M. Curts, age 97 of Mount Gilead, died on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Morrow County Hospital. He was born on June 12, 1928, in Cardington to the late Homer W. and Edith M. (Morton) Curts.
Robert was a 1946 graduate of the Cardington Lincoln High School where he received his State FFA Degree in 1946. He joined the United State Army in 1951 during the Korean War where he became a Staff Sergeant and was an instructor in the Signal Corp.
On March 25, 1951, at the Cardington United Methodist Church, Robert married Nancy L. Richey and they spend 51 wonderful years until her passing on January 10, 2005.
Robert began his career with the Ohio Telephone Company as an installation and repair technician, remaining with the company through its transition to United Telephone. Early in his career, he was promoted to District Manager, a role that reflected his dedication and leadership. Robert devoted more than 30 years to the company before retiring. Following his retirement, he founded Morrow Telephone Service Company, where he worked alongside his son, Steve, who later purchased the business from his father in 2000.
Robert was deeply devoted to his community, faith, and the outdoors throughout his life. He faithfully served on the Delaware/Morrow County Board of Mental Health and was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, where he was also active as a Gideon. Robert's commitment to service was further reflected through his remarkable more than 70-year membership in the Lions Club. An avid conservationist, he helped found the Morrow County Nature Club and played an instrumental role in establishing several Bluebird Trails throughout Morrow County. Robert also had a lifelong passion for sports and was the quintessential fan, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, Browns, Cavaliers, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Left to cherish Robert's memory are his three sons: Gary (Patricia Linder) Curts of Mt. Gilead, Steve (JoAnna) Curts of Mt. Gilead, and Michael (Pam) Curts of Terra Haute, IN; three siblings: James of Edison, Bill (Loretta) of Mt. Gilead, and Jean of North Carolina; nine grandchildren: Clay (Valerie) Curts, Alec Curts, Chad (Shannon) Curts, Laurel (Zack) Cornelius, Andrew (Ashley) Curts, Adria (Matthew) Day, Rebecca (Levi) Schwartz, Kristy (Ben) Huffman, and Sarah (Kurtis) Campbell; as well as 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two siblings, Richard Curts and Barbara Bowman.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington.
