Richard "Dick" O. Shirley, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and brother, age 90 of Galion passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1934, to the late Joseph L. and Mildred I. (Firstenberger) Shirley.
Dick had worked for Perfection Kobey as a Machinist for twenty-eight years, he then worked for Galion City Schools until his retirement. He was a member of the Morrow County Coon Hunters Club. He was an avid John Deere fan.
On April 1, 1955, Dick married Marsha L. (Westbrook) in Cardington, she preceded in death on November 10, 2019, as well as his children: Richard N. Shirley and Teri Shirley Gullett.
Dick is survived by his loving daughter Tami Loyer of Galion, his seven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren and his dog Lexi.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his three brothers, Melvin, Charles and Leonard Jr. Shirley; as well as three sisters, Maxine Hart, Mary Kemp and Hazel Ault.
Friends may call on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM with Chaplin Doug Olsen officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
