Richard “Dick” F. Sliger, age 86 of Marengo passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026. He was born on September 23, 1939, in Uniontown, PA to the late Joseph R. and Evelyn F. (Giltner) Sliger.
Dick was the president of Sliger & Son’s Sheet Metal where he enjoyed working side by side with his sons.
Dick was a proud member of the AMVETS, V.F.W., and Eagles, where he enjoyed spending time with many dear friends. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening, and took great pride in having traveled to all 50 states. He also enjoyed going on cruises, having taken 13 throughout his lifetime. Dick could often be found riding his John Deere mower, playing Texas Hold’em at the AMVETS, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends. Above all, he treasured time spent watching his grandchildren and great-grandchild grow and create lasting memories together.
On June 8, 1959, Dick married the love of his life Betty Jean (Chambers) in New Tazwell, TN, and she survives in Marengo.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by their children: Bart (Susan) Sliger of Marion, Craig (Cindy) Sliger of Marengo and Rick (Melissa) Sliger of Lewis Center; four grandchildren: Kristin (Mike Plymale) Sliger, Nicholas (Rachel) Sliger, Zachery Sliger and Michelle (Evan) Edmiston; great-grandchild Taylor Barton, sister Roselma Goins, his loyal dog Max, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister Ester Keifer and brother Frank Sliger.
Friends may call on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Marengo Cemetery.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the St. Jude Hospital.
