Phillip Ray Monticue, age 81 of Delaware, died unexpectedly Sunday June 19, 2022. He was born at home on March 14, 1941, in Concord Township, Delaware, OH to parents Gladys Firman and Harold Monticue.
Phil is survived by his wife Phyllis Monticue of Delaware, son Steve (Maureen Doyle) Sheets of Westerville, daughter Erin (Eric) Jones of Marengo. Grandchildren include Jason (Leslie) Matthews of Marion, Jonathan Sheets of WA, and Christopher Sheets of Delaware. Great grandchildren include Sebastion and Tateum Sheets of NC, Jackson and Jillian Matthews of Marion, and Daxton Sheets of Delaware.
Phil was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Lovie, and his grandson Jesse Matthews.
For those who knew Phil, he was quite the character with witty jokes and quick jovial laughter. Phil was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fidelity M.SO. 443 from 1959-1962. He sold cars in Delaware for many years, drove semi-trucks for a while, then ended his career at the Delaware County inspector's office. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, having a cold brew, and listening to country music. He and Phyllis raised quarter horses for many years as well in Delaware and participated in the annual horse parade held prior to the Little Brown Jug.
Per Phil's wishes a quiet family-only service will be held at the Troy Township Cemetery at a later date. Gompf Funeral Home of Cardington is honored to have been chosen to assist the family during this difficult time.
