Philip Ward Conaway, age 83 of Columbus passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, after a short illness. He was born on November 9, 1939, to the late Ward E. and Myrtle E. (Horlacher) Conaway of Cardington. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Maralyn, his brother Stephan Conaway of London England, a son Paul (Pam) and a daughter Sarah Conaway. In addition four grandchildren survive him including Steven Conaway, Samantha Conaway, Isabelle Deever and Thomas Deever.
Philip graduated from Cardington Lincoln high school and then Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He spent his career working as a programmer and system analyst. He started at F & R Lazarus and later worked for Electronic Data Systems and Quick Solutions.
Philip was a kind, loving and generous husband, father and grandfather who put his family first. He believed in supporting all his family in whatever paths they had chosen.
Philip volunteered for a variety of local and national organizations including Meals on Wheels, Horizon Prison Ministries, Vote Smart, and AARP tax preparation services. He was generous in supporting several food pantries such as Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Neighbor Services Inc., and the Cardington Community Food Pantry. He was a longtime supporter of The Trust for Public Land, Planned Parenthood and Community Development for All People.
He is much beloved and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his brothers John and Thomas Conaway.

Friends may call on Friday June 16, 2023, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. A memorial service will directly follow at 1:00 PM. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
