Opal Mae Newlun, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, age 88 of Cardington passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Bennington Glen. She was born on February 12, 1936, in Athens County to the late Herbert L. and Clara M. (Cullison) Bailey.
Opal graduated from Buchtel York High School in 1954. She managed Par 3 Golf and 33 Drive -In in Nelsonville for 26 years. She was a past member of Oak Grove Church in Nelsonville.
Opal enjoyed cooking, but she most enjoyed caring for her family. She loved spending as much time as she could with them. Opal liked to spend her free time playing games on her iPad. Opal loved to be right, she always said she would rather be right than be president.
Opal is survived by her daughters, Betty Jo (Andy) Grinstead of Holladay, Utah and Candy Jo Danforth of Mount Gilead, six grandchildren: Amy (Thom) Kipfinger, Melissa (Jeff) Fleming, Kyle (Kenzie) Grinstead, Lauren Grinstead, Caroline Grinstead and Thomas Grinstead; six great-grandchildren: Brittany Wolf-Delawder, Jacob Adams, Cadence Fleming, Cooper Fleming, Phoebe Grinstead, and James Grinstead.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by three brothers: Hubert, Donald, and Eugene Bailey and eight sisters: Kathleen Chrihfield, Juanita Six, Irene Buck, Ann Six, Geraldine Mace, Maxine Spaulding, Elaine Cheeseman and Ruth Martin.
Friends may call for a celebration of Opal's life on Friday June 28, 2024, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Service, 440 Center Street, Cardington, Ohio 43315.
