Norman E. Bilger, beloved father, and grandfather, age 82 of Edison, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Marion General Hospital. He was born on November 11, 1942, to the late Raymond and Flossy (Stoneman) Bilger.
Norman proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He had worked for Marion Power Shovel as a welder for many years. Norman was a member of Whetstone Baptist Church in Bucyrus.
Norman's passion for gardening brought joy and beauty to his life, as he was known for putting out a big garden for all to enjoy. In his free time he liked fishing, cutting wood and admiring classic cars. Known affectionately as the "watch fixer," by his family. Norman liked to stay busy, you could always find him doing something.
On May 25, 1965, Norman married the love of his life Helen "Lucy" (Shuster), she preceded him in death on January 14, 2022.
Norman is survived by his loving stepson, Allen Holt of Cardington, his loving children: Carl (Carol) Holt of Cardington, Chris (Mark) Conkle of Mount Gilead and Sandy (Brian) Schaffer of Galion, his siblings: Dennis (Paulene) Bilger of Martel, Larry Bilger of Martel and Joyce Bilger of Marion; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and his good friend Chuck McGuire; he thought the world of his neighbors Roger and Linda Fletcher and Blaine and Janice Cochran.
In addition to his parents and wife, Norman was preceded in death by his grandson Tanner Holt, many of his brothers and sisters, as well as his neighbors Bob and Alice Beal.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington, with the funeral to directly follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Larry Oxendine officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Caledonia Cemetery.
