Nancee JoAnne (Kester) Davis

Nancee J. Davis, age 89 of Marion formerly of Cardington passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at ProMedica of Marion. She was born on October 3, 1933, in Cardington to the late Arthur N. Kester and Edna M. (Jenkins) Kester Holt.

Nancee graduated Salutatorian of Cardington High School in 1951. She went on to study nursing and graduated in 1954 from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing.

Nancee started dating Eugene Davis who enlisted in the Navy and who was off to Korea while she went to nursing school. They frequently exchanged airmail.

On March 12, 1955, Nancee and Eugene were married at the Methodist Church in Cardington. To this union came four kids: Barb, Kathy, Jeff, and Aaron.

Nancee worked at the U.S. Engineer Depot in Marion, but quickly started her nursing career after graduating. She had worked at Marion General with the newborns, Chesterville Nursing Home, Matron at Parsons Children's Home, Morrow County Hospital, then retiring from Marion General in 2001. Nancee especially enjoyed working with newborns, and also with Foster Children. She enjoyed doing crafts from sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She was a member of the Creators Guild of Marion. Nancee was also a cancer survivor.

Left to cherish Nancee's memory are her children: Barbara Holcombe of Little Rock, AR, Kathleen Johnson of Crestwood, KY., Jeffrey (Debbie) Davis of AZ, and Aaron (Darcie) Davis of Claridon. Grandsons: Gregory Johnson of Evansville, IN., Brendan Johnson of Crestwood, KY., and Mason Holcombe of Little Rock AR., her sister Janis Holt of Centerburg and brother Alvin Holt of Rogers, AR., as well as various nieces and nephews; friends Rita Levings Murray and Nancy McGillivray.

In addition to her parents, and her husband Gene, Nancee was preceded in death by her sister Rose Ellen Fisher.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 14, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. A graveside service will take place Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
