Obituary

Monty L. Smith, age 61 of Mount Gilead passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1961, in Mount Gilead to Fred Smith and Martha (Augenstein) Smith-Wright.

Monty had worked as a general contractor and was a handy man.

Monty loved fishing, playing pool, trading/wheeling and dealing, fireworks, playing chess, listening to rock music and storytelling. He collected fun and cute toys and knickknacks, as well as invented and built toys or remodeled them. He had a great sense of humor and was always being a goofball. Monty was into muscle building and always loved to show off his arms. He liked anything with a small motor or engine, being outdoors and spending time with his many friends.

Monty is survived by his son Lucas (Torrie) Smith of Cardington, his grandson Leo Smith, his significant other Jeannie Fairchild, his sisters Sharon (Chuck) Gullett, Pamela (John) Simeone and his twin sister Marlie (Ron) Somerlot, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Monty was preceded in death by his parents who he was loved dearly by, as well as his grandparents: Cecil and Aletha Smith and Harry and Virginia Augenstein.

Gompf Funeral Service of Cardington is honored to have been chosen to assist the Smith family with Monty's final wishes and condolences may be expressed at www.gompffh.com.
