Mildred Josephine (Franks) Short

Mildred J. Short (Jo Short), age 96 of Cardington, died Saturday, January 23, 2021 at her residence. Born the oldest of 9 children on May 4, 1924 to the late Howard P. and Mabel L. (Dodd) Franks.

Mildred had worked her entire life as a homemaker, raising 6 children and looking after them. She was a member of the Cardington Baptist Temple Church and was actively involved. Mildred enjoyed sewing and cooking, especially homemade bread, and cinnamon rolls which she would hand out to family and friends. She enjoyed just helping and taking care of anyone who needed assistance. Some of Mildred’s most precious time was spent was with her children and grandchildren.

On April 27, 1940 in Mt. Gilead, Mildred married Tracey J. Short and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2003.

Left to cherish Mildred’s memory are 2 daughters: Judy Greenawalt of Galion and Christy Short of Cardington; 4 siblings: Helen Stout of Missouri, Raymond Franks of Marengo, Roger Franks of Iberia, and Patty Smith of Bloomfield; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by 4 children: George, Gordon, Michael and Robert Short and 4 siblings: Isabelle Brucker, Geneva Knapp, Betty Welch and Kenny Franks.

Gompf Funeral home of Cardington is honored to have been chosen to assist the Short family with Mildred’s final wishes. The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Mildred once the pandemic is over.
