Michael Black Obituary

Michael T. Black, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, age 78 of Marengo, passed away Tuesday August 5, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 3, 1946, to the late George L. and Alice A. (Delgarn) Black.

Michael, a proud United States Marine and Vietnam War veteran, was wounded in combat and honorably retired after bravely serving his country with courage and distinction.

Michael was an avid fisherman who cherished time spent on the water, whether casting a line alone or with loved ones by his side. He had a joyful spirit and a generous heart, always finding ways to give to others, especially through thoughtful gifts and small acts of kindness. One of his greatest joys was collecting things for the Christmas room in their home, a magical space that reflected his love for the season of giving and celebration. Michael loved his grandchildren and took every opportunity to make memories with them, sharing stories, laughter, and unconditional love. A faithful servant of the Lord, he was never shy in witnessing his faith and lived his life as a testament to God's grace and goodness.

On February 24, 1974, Michael married Bessie Ann (Spaulding) in Columbus, she survives in Marengo.

In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his son, Michael (Kathleen) Black of Mount Gilead, his daughter Jennifer (Duane Straley) Brown of Mount Gilead; three grandchildren: Kadance Brown, Syntyche (Zach Stone) Black, and Kevin Brown; two great-grandchildren: Vincent and Veronica Stone, his brother Roger (Leeanna) Black of Columbus as well as his bonus grandchildren: Scott Price, Kayla Price and Kaitlyn (Cole Austin) Straley.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Black and sister Judy Kinsell.
