Kay Mitchell Obituary

Kay Lee Mitchell, 80, of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on April 6, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1944, in Bippus, Indiana to the late Max W. and Carolyn A. (Schenkel) Krumanaker. Kay was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family, finding joy and purpose in her role as a homemaker.

Kay loved making memories with her family, especially during annual trips to Canada and holiday gatherings at Christmas, where laughter and love filled the air. Her warm spirit and generous heart were a source of comfort to all who knew her. Kay was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo.

Kay is survived by her devoted husband, James Mitchell, whom she married on November 30, 1963, in Claridon. Jim stood by her side through life’s many joys and challenges.

Kay will be remembered for her unwavering love for her children—Jon (Angie) Mitchell of Marion, Traci (Ron) Harris of Caledonia, and Jeff (Missy) Mitchell of Caledonia—whom she considered her greatest accomplishment. Family was at the heart of everything she did. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, and her legacy will live on through them: Ashley (Brandon) Hazlett, Carson (Anna) Gibson, Collin (Morgan) Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Matthew Harris, Max (Cloie) Mitchell, Sam (Taylor) Mitchell, Taylor (Cameron) Hacker, Mason (Hannah) Griffith, Emily (Nic) Price, and Gavin Griffith. Kay was also a proud great-grandmother to Burkelyn Kay Mitchell, Henry Gibson, Wren Taylor, Noah Griffith, Abigail Griffith, Eleanor Price, Kayden Creighton and Kamryn Creighton; as well as three nieces and a nephew.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Kent Krumanaker.

A celebration of Kay’s life will take place on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center St. Cardington, Ohio 43315.
