Joyce Ann Powers, beloved mother and sister, age 76 of Cardington passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, at her home. She was born on August 29, 1948, in Wise County, Virginia to the late Ralph and Ruble (Slemp) Elkins.
Joyce graduated from Pound High School. She had worked at Ranco in Delaware for almost 30 years until she retired.
Joyce loved her house plants and took pride in cultivating their beauty. She loved feeding the rabbits and birds. Joyce was known for her big gardens and canning the food she would harvest from it. Willy and Mojo, her two dogs, were her pride and joy. She was an avid college football fan.
On March 5, 1966, Joyce married Thomas "T.J." Powers in Clintwood, VA, he preceded her in death on July 20, 2020.
Joyce is survived by her loving son Jeff (Cathy) Powers of Cardington, her siblings: Janice Collins, Donnie (Barbara) Elkins, Helen Hobbs, all of Pound VA, and Freddie (Mona) Elkins of Wise, VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Tammy Thacker-Powers, her two sisters, Linda Gregory and Sue Cantrell as well as her brother Jimmy Elkins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM until the start of the funeral service at 12:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with Celebrant LeAnne Gompf officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Fulton Cemetery.
