John David Levings

John D. Levings, age 79 of Cardington went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 14, 2023. Praising the Lord he is in no more pain and aggravation from a body that was wearing out. He had been in declining health for the last six months. Born on June 15, 1943, in Galion, Ohio. He attended and played football for Ridgedale. On June 23, 1962, he married the love of his life Linda (Shumate) Levings. Shortly after they started dating, he told her someday her initials would be L.L.L. and they have been for over 60 years.

John attended the Cardington Church of the Nazarene for the last 28 years. For 32 years he worked for Imperial Maintenance in Delaware. He retired from Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware after 12 years as their bus driver. He thoroughly loved the residents and their life stories. After retiring John enjoyed Friday morning Christian Men's Breakfast at the Edison Depot. John never met a stranger. He may not have remembered your name, but he knew where you were from! To say John loved to talk was an understatement. He usually ended all his conversations with God loves you.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Linda. Three blessed children for having him as a father. Melissa Levings, John (Lori) Levings II of Cardington. Kevin (Rebecca) Levings of Columbus formerly of Marion. Five grandchildren the pride and joy of his life Emily Levings, Johnny Levings III of Cardington. Hannah Levings, Brycen Levings and Koen Levings of Columbus. Sisters Flora Benedict, Galion; Rita Murray, Orient and Zoa Hoover, Delaware along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kyle Von Levings. Brothers Charles Levings, Sherman Mullet, Francis Levings, Junior Levings and Mike Levings; and sister Mary Rhodes.

Visitation will be held On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street, Cardington, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chris Umphryes officiating and the burial will follow at Bryn Zion Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cardington Church of the Nazarene, 328 Water Street Cardington, Ohio 43315.
