John Thomas. Gill Sr., age 79 of Cardington and formerly of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at home surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle against cancer. Tom was born on January 12, 1942, in Wheeling, WV to the late Glendon and Lena (Hess) Gill.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his children: John Thomas. Gill Jr., Tamara Lynn Butler, Teddi Kay Todd; grand-children Tod Lee Butler II & John Thomas Hartman.
Tom is survived by his loving daughter Dawn Michelle (Lisa Hyder) Gill of Powell; brother, Rick (Mary) Gill of Mechanicsburg; loving fiancé, Therese Howard of Cardington; grandchildren, Sara Butler, Kelly Butler, April Hartman and Logan Sleeper; numerous great-grandchildren and two nieces. Tom is also survived by his extended family who he loved as his own, Randy Shears, Randi Kay (Ryan) Holzer, Amanda Shears and Brittany Shears.
Tom was a "jack-of-all-trades" during his lifetime career working with heavy-duty commercial vehicles. From driving, welding, repairing, service, and sales Tom's love for the" big-trucks" became his passion. During Tom's professional career he worked for numerous companies including Frame and Spring, Capital City, Langstone, Dountz, Pugh and Jones Topsoil where he retired.
In his free time Tom's favorite hobby was spending time at his camper in Cardington. Tom also enjoyed boating, gardening, cooking and visiting the casino.
