John R. Bennett, age 83 of Mount Gilead died Thursday, November 25, 2021, at his home. He was born on March 5,1938 to Harry and Grace (Fisher) Bennett who preceded him in death.
John was a 1956 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S Army. John was the Police Chief in Cardington, as well as a Dispatcher and Deputy at the Morrow County Sheriff's office and worked security in Clintwood Virginia. John was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Mason's and a member of Eastern Star.
On June 9, 2007, John married Linda Doubikin in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, who survives in Mount Gilead.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son John (Barbie) Bennett II of Ashcamp, KY, his two daughters, Jan Stanley of Clintwood, Va., and Melissa (Herbie) Stallard of Flemingsburg, KY, five grandchildren, sixteen step grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth (Martin) Bennett, his brother LeRoy Bennett, and his sister Betty Bowman.
Friends may call on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Russell Howard officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Cemetery with military honors.
