Jason Metzger Obituary

Jason Spencer Metzger left this world suddenly on September 19, 2024. Born February 16, 1969, in Portsmouth, Ohio. Jason was a devoted husband, father, and friend.

Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Franklin Metzger Sr. and Blanche Clotine (Rose) Nahnsen, both of whom instilled in him the value of hard work.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Stephanie, who was his partner in life and laughter. Jason was a devoted father to his three sons, Joshua Young and significant other Catrena Sizemore, Casey Metzger and significant other Allison Maughan, and Travis Metzger. He cherished his role as PawPaw to his precious granddaughter, Lucy Mae Young, whom he affectionately called "Sassy." His family was his pride and joy, and he poured his love into every moment spent with them. Jason is also remembered by his sister, Blanche Louwanna (John) Gartin; his brother, Pearl F. Metzger Jr.; and his cherished fur-babies, Zeus and Dixie. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

For 17 years, Jason proudly served as a locomotive engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad. His unwavering dedication and strong work ethic were evident in every task he undertook, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

A true nature enthusiast, Jason found joy in bird-watching and was endlessly amused by his quest to attract as many squirrels as possible to his front yard with an endless supply of peanuts. He spent countless hours outdoors, reveling in the beauty of the world around him. After achieving his lifelong dream of owning property, Jason could often be found working tirelessly to improve his land, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature that he loved so dearly.

Jason was known for his exceptional cooking. He had a gift for bringing people together, often coaxing friends and family to his table with the promise of a delicious meal and hearty laughter.

Those who knew Jason would attest to his incredible work ethic and selflessness. He was truly one of the hardest workers anyone could know, often putting the needs of others before his own. His willingness to go without in order to see others happy will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched.

Jason's sense of humor was legendary—lighthearted and occasionally tinged with a twisted edge. He had a unique ability to find laughter in the mundane and to make even the simplest moments unforgettable. His jokes and antics, filled with charm and a touch of mischief, created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to share in his joy.

Jason is known well for his love of Great Danes and his connection with those gentle giants and the pure joy their company brought him. He was preceded in death by many of his beloved fur-babies.  His family smiles picturing his reunion of being greeted with big slobbery kisses by all of his Danes that were waiting for him at the rainbow bridge.

Jason’s legacy of love, dedication, and humor will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he has left this world, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us all. We will cherish the memories, the laughter, and the love that he so freely shared.
