Janet Maxine (Scaggs) Levering

Janet M. Levering 84, of Cardington, received her wings on March 05, 2026.  She is survived by her husband of 63 years Eugene Levering, her daughter Karen (Dave) Spires, her son Steven Levering; five grandchildren - Sierra Spires, Jacob Spires, Sydney Spires, Ryan Spires, and Lindsay Levering; and one great grandson – Michael David Stetson, She was preceded in death by her grandson Grant Levering.

Janet was born February 10, 1942, to Nellie and Walter Scaggs of Madison Township, Clark County, Ohio.  She graduated from Madison Mills High School (Miami Trace) in Fayette County, Ohio in 1960.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Otterbein University, and her Master’s degree from Ashland University.  Among other accomplishments, Janet also earned her Private Pilot’s License.

Janet’s career accomplishments included teaching second grade at the Marengo building of the Highland Local Schools and at Cardington Elementary School, teaching a program for gifted and talented middle school students at Cardington, serving as curriculum coordinator for the Morrow County Board of Education, and a brief stint as interim principal at Cardington High School.

Janet was a member of the church formerly known as the First United Methodist Church in Cardington.  Within the church she taught Sunday School for high school age students, was active in Circle, and served on various committees.  Janet was active in the Morrow County Republican Party, and Republican Women.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with the funeral service directly following at 12:00 PM with Pastor John Carpenter officiating.  Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
