James "Jim" L. Osborn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, age 93 of Edison passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 16, 1932, in Ashley, Ohio to the late Cullen D. and Spray M. (Redd) Osborn.
Jim was a 1950 graduate of Edison High School and had attended Ohio Northern University. He proudly served in the United States Navy, where his ship had the honor of participating in the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. After his service, he devoted his career to the Ohio Department of Highways until his retirement. Jim then went on to work for Resource International, an engineering firm, for nine more years.
Jim was an active member of the Gleaners, as well as the Lions Club for over sixty years, where he held the distinction of being its oldest living member. He had attended many veterans' events at the Cardington American Legion. Jim was a passionate volunteer who always sought to uplift those around him. His love for woodworking allowed him to create beautiful crafts, and he devoted countless hours to making pieces for church craft shows. He was a devoted member of Edison Gospel Church. For over twenty-five years, Jim served as the Sunday School superintendent, deeply impacting the lives of many learners and fostering a love for faith and community. He was a member of the trio called God’s Promises with members Darrell Levings and Tim Siegfried, they would go around and sing at several local churches over the years. Jim's family was most important to him; he spent most of his time supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their extracurricular events.
On October 5, 1952, Jim married Donna Mae (Hawk), they spent an incredible 72 years together. They raised a loving family, including their daughter Denise (Jeff) Ruhl and two sons, Kerry (Marlene) Osborn and Kent Osborn; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jenni (Matt) Bishop, Lyla, Landon, and Logan, Jana (Mike) Worner, Braxton, Becca, Brinley, Kortny, and Kris, Lindi (Kyle Butterman) Osborn, Madelynn, Maesynn, Maxton, and Makalynn, Cassie (Jason) Shaw, Lori, and Luke, Claire (Vernon) Scott, Cadence, Lacey, and Lydia, Kaleb, Tyler Ruhl, Josh (Jessica) Irwin, Wyatt, Shalynn and Rayna, Kara Osborn, Michael Golden, Dustin Golden, Eric Golden, and Alex Golden, Brian (Nancy) Striker, Tyler, Alex, Reagan, Abby and Luis, Erica (Brian) Butts, Jocelyn (Jari) Lemmilá, Stella and Elsa, and Jon (Ania) Striker, Nina and Nadia; as well as two great-great-grandchildren: Reiagn and Corena and a special cousin Dorothy Smith, brothers-in-law Charles and Floyd O. Hawk, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald and Robert Osborn, Pauline Gardner and Virginia Hickson; sisters-in-law Mary and June Hawk; daughter-in-law, Jackie Osborn, and grandchildren, Kendra (Osborn) Tackett and Craig Ruhl.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ruben Cabanillas and Pastor Matt Skelton officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Worden Cemetery.
