James "Jamie" Taylor Obituary

James "Jamie" T. Taylor, loving husband, father, brother and uncle, age 68 of Marengo passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 25, 1956, to Byrle Taylor and Shelby "Betty" (Mullins) Taylor.

Jamie was a 1976 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School. He started working at JG Clark and went on to have several maintenance positions with different companies, with his last working as a forklift operator at CYT in Cardington until his retirement.

Jamie was a member of Gods Anointed Alter Church as an Assistant Pastor, Jamie ministered in Word & Praise and Worship. He received his license to be an ordained minister on August 6, 2023. He was an avid studier of God's word, especially prophetic word. His congregation would often times request their favorite songs of Brother Jamie "The Well" and "Going by the Book". Jamie was a very skilled acoustic guitar player. Jamie was known to his Debbie, as "Grasshopper", and lovingly called her "Cricket". He had a great sense of humor, loved to make people laugh. He did a perfect impression of Mr. Tudball's walk by Tim Conway. Jamie was a homebody and loved to mow on his 1953 Ford Tractor. Jamie never met a stranger and had many friends. His conversations with others always center around living for God and encouraging others to do the same. He loved his "fur babies", Red, Bo and Penny.

On August 29. 2015 Jamie married the love of his life Deborah (Reed) she survives in Marengo.

In addition to his wife, Jamie is survived by his children: Jamie (Misty) Taylor, Elizabeth (Jason) Burkhammer, Ryan Dale Swango (Becky), Melissa (Mike) Swango, grandchildren: Preston Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Jakob (Journee and Kamden) Swango, Mariah (Greg), Anixon, Andrew Osborne, Hannah (Alannah) Clark, Ryan Swango and Aubrey Swango; siblings: Carla (Rick) Lanum, Danielle (Jeff) Webb, and Paula Powell, as well as his brother-in-law Rick Mahaffey.

In addition to his parents, Jamie was preceded in death by his sister Jeri Mahaffey and brother-in-law Don Powell.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will directly follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Donna Ball officiating.
