James E. Thompson better known as "Ed" died Saturday July 26, 2025, in Riverside Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 21, 1943, in Marion to the late Hobern and Roma (Jury) Thompson.
Ed held a degree in Pastoral Theology and had served as a Pastor.
Ed enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, and doing latch hook. He enjoyed his family and took great joy in buying for his great grandbabies all year long. Ed had a passion for helping at the softball field announcing the games, manning the grill, working the concession stand and even being the repairman. He attended Bible Baptist Church in Marysville where he enjoyed doing God's work with a servant's heart. Ed and Sandy volunteered at the food pantry doing the Lord's work.
On August 25, 1963 Ed married the former Sandra Fields and Sandy survives in Marion.
Ed is also survived by his children, Chris (Cara) Thompson of Fredericktown; Art (Carla) Thompson of Marion; Dan (Cindy) Thompson of Cardington; and Matthew (Jennifer) Thompson of Cardington; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight Shumate; sister Kay Kavalets and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his grandson James "Bubba" Thompson; brother Keith Shumate; and sister Martha Jayne Boyd.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery on Friday August 1st, 2025, beginning at 11:30 AM.
