Howard "Doc" Mitchell, age 79 of Cardington passed Monday, December 4, 2017 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was born on March 31, 1938 in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Howard and Opal (Robey) Mitchell. Doc served his country in the Air Force Reserve. He worked in the heating and cooling industry for many years, first working for Neilson Heating and later owning and operating Wise Heating. Doc loved being outdoors; he enjoyed trap shooting, golfing and his hunts out West. He was an avid bowler and loved the game of basketball. Doc was known to sing a few songs on karaoke nights. He was a member at the Sunbury VFW Post 8736 and the Sunbury Eagles Aerie #3614 where he enjoyed spending time with friends. Doc was a car guy, he owned a 56' Mercury St. Claire that he would take to the car shows, people at the shows would call him the "MercMan". Doc is survived by his six children; Chet Mitchell of Delaware, Kim Mitchell of Delaware, Terri (Joe) Albright of Cardington, Liz (Jeff) Roush of Marengo, Pam (Mike) Rognon of Marysville, and Becky (Vann) Seawell of Galena; his former wife Sharon Mitchell; 10 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his five siblings, four sisters, Trilby Bond, Sharon Donahue, Nancy Carmen, JoAnne Davis, and brother Harold Mitchell. A Celebration of Life will be held in Doc's honor on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 235 N. Columbus St., Sunbury, OH from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
