Glenna Irene French, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, age 96 passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at DeWolfe Place surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 24, 1927, in Marion, to the late Roy E. and Rodene D. (Layman) Bailey.
Glenna graduated from Meeker High School and continued her education at Grant Hospital. She then went on to be a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. She had worked as an RN at Marion General Hospital, an Industrial Nurse at Quaker Oats and a volunteer E.M.S. for Cardington Fire Department.
Glenna loved her children and spending time with her family was very important to her. In her free time she served Meals on Wheels, was an avid seamstress, and blood donor. Glenna was a Cardington Pirate fan, she loved to dance, listen to Big Band music, travel domestic and overseas, and read scriptures and poems. Her favorite saying was "We're off like a herd of turtles."
Left to cherish Glenna's memory are her children: Cindy Libster of Marion, Stephen (Marlene Fahl) French of Maumee, Shari (Harold) Young of Mount Gilead, Brenda (Lloyd) Traxler of Paragould, AR., Anita (Roger) Foos, and Teresa (Wendell) Gayheart both of Cardington; eighteen grandchildren, and thirty-six great-grandchildren; and her longtime companion Ralph Loreno.
In addition to her parents, Glenna was preceded in death by her first husband Sydney Anderson and her second husband James French, her son-in-law Mitch Libster, daughter-in-law Karen Love French and sister and brother-in-law Leon (Jim) Wallace.
Friends may call on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. Following calling hours, a graveside service in Chapel Heights Memorial Gardens, 2622 Marion- Upper Sandusky Road, Marion, Ohio 43302, with full military honors will take place at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Nick Wordon officiating.
