Gilbert “Gil” L. Carroll, age 75 of Mt. Gilead, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Marion General Hospital. He was born on January 17, 1946 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Thomas A. and Wathena Ann (Swank) Carroll, Sr.
Gil is survived by the love of his life, Jane (Jackson) Carroll, whom he married on September 26, 1992. He graduated from Covington High School in 1965 and the following year joined the US Air Force where he served his country honorably for 4 years as a Crew Chief for a B52 bomber. In 1971 he began his lifelong career with TruGreen Lawn Care Services, remaining as a part-time employee following his retirement in 2009. He was well known and respected for his strong work ethic and took great pride in his work; he was a good man.
The simplest pleasures in life brought Gil great joy. On any given day you might find Gil working on a project in his barn, flying his drone across the country fields, or fishing in his pond. Gil loved traveling and seeing new places. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He had numerous nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart and his life. He had a close bond with his siblings and laughter would fill the room on those “fun days” as they would sit and reminisce for hours. Known for his big, contagious smile and generous heart, he made everyone he encountered feel special. First and foremost, Gil knew Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He had a servant’s heart and willingly shared his gifts with his church, North Woodbury Alliance Church, whom he considered family.
In addition to his wife, Gil is survived by his son, Eli Carroll and daughter, Camille (Jimmy) Compton, both of Piqua, Ohio; special daughter, Melissa (Joe) Walsh, Mt Vernon; grandchildren, Caden Compton, Aubree and Makenzie Carroll, and special grandchildren, Adalynn and Lincoln Sellers; sisters, Keytha Rouse, Piqua, Connie (Terry) Updike, Huntington, IN, and Sister-in-law, Mary Carroll of Bellville. His brother, Thomas A Carroll, Jr and son, Christopher Mackey preceded him in death.
