Frederick Jay Williamson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and respected member of the community, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the age of 92 at DeWolfe Place in Marion. Born on February 8, 1932, in Marion, Ohio to the late Theron and Katie (Sherrard) Williamson, he is survived by his wife Barbara (Hershner) who he married on February 4, 1958. He is also survived by children Michael Williamson, Christa Weiss, Timothy (Kim) Williamson, Michelle (Gary) Quick, Mark
(Tracy) Williamson and over three dozen grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Frederick was preceded in death by his brother Jack Williamson and grandson Justin Williamson.
Frederick graduated in 1949 from Cardington-Lincoln High School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He came home to a career as a barber in Cardington, then serving as a guard at Marion Correctional before his retirement. Fred served as a Lincoln Township Trustee, a member of the V.F.W., and member of the Mount Gilead Church of Christ.
This obituary does not scratch the surface of one man's ordinary and extraordinary impact on his community. Fred Williamson was a larger-than-life personality who laughed often and loud. Someone who made sure all around him also got to laugh often and loud. If you were his friend, you were his family.
He is greatly missed.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will directly follow at 1:00 PM. Following the service, the burial with a full military honors will take place in the Fulton Cemetery.
