Evelyn Adah (Fricke) Long, age 90 of Cardington, went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2023. Born July 8, 1932, in Marion, Ohio to the late Paul and Adah (Click) Fricke.
Evelyn married the love of her life, Willis Ray Long, on August 19, 1955, and had 49 wonderful years together.
Evelyn leaves behind two sons, Kevin (Sid) Long and Alan (Kim) Long, both of Cardington. She was grandmother to Adam (Ryan) Long of Huntington, Indiana, Ethan Long of Cardington, and Megan (Cameron) King of Katy, Texas. She also had one great grandchild, Remi Long.
She had many joys in life, like baking her famous cream puffs and cheering on the Buckeyes. Her love of Cardington-Lincoln Schools, where she graduated in 1950, allowed her to serve on the Alumni Board for many years. But Evelyn’s greatest passion was writing for the local papers - the Sentinel, the Independent, and the Marion Star. This gave her the chance to be involved in a multitude of community activities, projects, and events. She always said she loved covering the Morrow County Fair because those were the good kids that weren’t out getting into trouble.
You may have received a greeting card from Evelyn at one time, as they were her favorite gift to give and receive, ever since she was sick as a child and the cards she got then, were a great encouragement. She also probably taught you a fact or two about Cardington’s history, her favorite pastime. Unofficially Cardington’s historian, she highlighted many fascinating moments in Cardington’s past in her weekly “Reflections” article.
She was the oldest of four sisters, Joanne Mathews of Bennington Glen, the late Marlene Heimlich, and the late Norita Mories. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews make up the Fricke family that she always adored.
Friends may call on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Molly King officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
