Elma Elnora (Hatten) Black

Elma E. Black, age 92 of Marengo passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the Woodside Village Care Center. She was born on Aug 10, 1930, to Paul M. and Imo M. (Smith) Hatten who preceded her in death.

Elma was a 1948 graduate of Ashley High School. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in Education from the Indiana Wesleyan University. Elma had worked as a homemaker for most of her adult life, she also had worked at the Seniors on Center and the Morrow County Recorder's Office.

Elma was a longtime member of Alum Creek Friends Church where she was very active and served on several different ministries. Elma was a modest lady who lived a simple life. Spending time with her family was one of her favorite things to do.

On August 21, 1953, Elma married Kenneth H. Black in Marengo, he preceded her in death on November 6, 1988.

Elma is survived by her daughter Maude (Joseph) Metzger of Marengo; three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, and husband Elma was preceded in death by her son Lyle Black, and her siblings Harry Hatten, David Hatten, Daniel Hatten, Roselene Young, Annie Scott, Mildred Adams, and Barbara Richey.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2022, at The Alum Creek Friends Church, 3385 OH-229, Marengo, Ohio 43334 at 11:00 AM. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Alum Creek Friends Cemetery.
