Elizabeth Frances Tuggle, 82, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 5th, 2024, at Woodside Village Care Center. She was born on October 13th, 1941, to Harry and Pearl (Smith) Simmons in Richlands, Virginia, the eldest of six children. Elizabeth spent her childhood "on the mountain" and married her husband Berkley "Ike" Tuggle Sr. on October 16th, 1957. They settled in Cardington, Ohio to raise their children. Elizabeth went to work at Core Systems and remained there for over 25 years until her retirement.
Elizabeth was a lifelong lover of stories. What started with a love of comic books and radio shows when she was little evolved into a love of novels, soap operas, and westerns as she grew older. She loved music, particularly Ralph Stanley, along with Johnny Cash and June Carter. She loved to laugh, going as far as waking up early every April 1st to prank call as many of her family members as possible. Her memory was impeccable, so she almost never forgot a birthday. She was quick witted and opinionated, but never at the expense of others. And she looked out for everyone around her, always sure to remind you of any "forgotten'' coats, while being stubborn enough to wait you out until you "remembered". But most of all, she loved her
family, who loved her deeply in return.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Berkley "Ike" Tuggle Sr.; her parents, Harry and Pearl (Smith) Simmons; her daughter-in-law, Pam Tuggle; her two brothers, Tommy and Gary Simmons; and her sister-in-law, Sheryl Simmons.
She is survived by her children: Berkley (Lynn) Tuggle Jr., Terry (Gaylene) Tuggle, Karen Tuggle, Susan (Jim) Cornett, Jeff Tuggle, and Tim Tuggle; siblings: Glenna (Gary) Raines, Deb (Brad) Breedlove, and Harry Simmons; brother-in-law, Robert (Judy) Tuggle, along with her 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind numerous other beloved family members and friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Service, 440 Center St. Cardington, Ohio 43315. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home and the burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
