Edward Eugene Elkins

Edward E. Elkins, Sr., age 86 of Sunbury, died on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 31, 1934 in Leonardsburg, Ohio to the late Elmer E. and Margaret Meryl (Ashbrook) Elkins.

Edward had worked as the Meat Department Manager at Kroger for over 40 years until retirement. He was also a great man of faith and was a member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church in Sunbury.

On July 21, 1954 in Westerville, Edward married Barbara Ann (Schumacher) and she preceded him in death on October 7, 1987.

In his spare time, Edward enjoyed working on cars and was very mechanical. He enjoyed tinkering on different things and could always be found working on various projects. Edward enjoyed camping, traveling and vacationing, especially his two trips to Alaska. He loved decorating for Christmas, gardening, square dancing and his Ohio State Buckeyes, especially the football and basketball teams.

Left to cherish Edward’s memory are his 5 children: Deborah Elkins of Ashley, Edward (Kristina) Elkins, Jr. of Dublin, Michael (Tina) Elkins of Sunbury, Timothy (Julie) Elkins of Delaware and Stephanie (Brian) Busjahn of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 3 siblings: Donald (Shirley) Elkins of Marengo, Janis Arlene (William) Cain of Sunbury and James Elkins of Marion; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

The Elkins family will hold a private service with burial in the Glendale Union Cemetery. Gompf Funeral Service is honored to have been chosen to assist the Elkins family with Edward’s final wishes.

In accordance with the Governor’s mandate, masks will now be required to enter the funeral home.
