Dorothy L. Babbs-Saunders, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, age 78 of Cardington passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Bennington Glen in Marengo. She was born on February 3, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Ronald E. and Ethel L. (Mitchell) Wintermute.
Dorothy for many years was a homemaker prior to working for Cardington-Lincoln Schools as a custodian for over 20 years. She was a member of Stantontown Advent Christian Church, she loved her church and took pride in helping with cooking and baking for many of the special meals the church had. She helped with Stantontown Home Missions and was a co-founder and volunteer for the free monthly meal at the Nazarene Church. Dorothy enjoyed helping with Bible School over the years as well. Dorothy was known for her weekly church news section in the local Independent.
On May 30, 1967, Dorothy married her first husband Harry C. Babbs in Olive Green Church of Christ, he preceded her in death on October 27, 1999. She married her second husband Walter Saunders, and he preceded her in death as well.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children: Sherry (Scott) Sherer, Ron (Lisa) Babbs, Shelly (Jeff) Benson, Robert Babbs, and Roger (Susan) Babbs; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and her sister Eva (Fred) Criswell.
In addition to her parents and her first and second husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Marie George.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Pastor William Wert officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Cemetery.
