Doris Marie (Brown) Burns

Doris M. Burns, age 94, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 26, 2026, at her residence at Kingston Residence of Marion. Born on December 18, 1931, in Fulton, to the late Elmer and Martha (Dyke) Brown, Doris lived a life defined by creativity, kindness, and a love for her family and friends.

Doris attended Fulton Elementary and later Cardington-Lincoln High School. She later furthered her education through the Professional Secretaries Association of America, where her dedication and leadership led her to serve as president of the organization. Doris built a successful career as a secretary for North Electric and later Alcatel, where her professionalism and attention to detail were well respected.

A proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Doris found joy in being with others. She had a creative spirit and especially loved making jewelry and crafting beautiful wreaths for family and friends. Gifted with a crochet hook, she lovingly made countless blankets that became treasured keepsakes for those she loved, particularly her cherished grandchildren. Whether she was gathered around a bingo table enjoying the friendly competition or spending time creating something with her hands, Doris found happiness in life's simple pleasures.

While Doris enjoyed many hobbies, nothing brought her greater happiness than her family. She especially treasured the close relationship she shared with her four dear nieces, who were a constant source of love and joy throughout her life.

On March 26, 1948, Doris married the love of her life, William "Bill" D. Burns, in Greenup, Kentucky. Bill preceded her in death on February 23, 2015.

Doris is survived by her sons, Randy (Patsy) Burns of Tennessee, Jeff (Kathy) Burns of Texas, and Tony (June) Burns of Virginia; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Levering.
