Donald Lee Wilson, age 88 of Cardington, died on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Marion General Hospital. He was born on June 20, 1937, in Columbus to the late John H. and Dorothy N. (Hensley) Wilson.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Cardington Lincoln High School. He then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy as a radarman second class. After his discharge from the Navy Don started his career as a locomotive engineer as his father and brother did. It became a defining and cherished part of his life. He took great pride in the responsibility of safely guiding passengers and freight across countless miles, operating powerful locomotives with steady focus and unwavering dedication. His work demanded precision, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of the rails-qualities he carried with humility and skill. He found meaning in being part of an industry that kept communities and commerce moving, and he embraced each day with the same commitment and professionalism. For him, the railroad was more than a job; it was a lifelong calling that brought purpose, accomplishment, and a profound sense of pride.
He was a proud and dedicated member of the Knights of Pythias, valuing the fellowship, service, and commitment to community that the organization represents. His involvement reflected his longstanding belief in supporting others and living with integrity. He was also a loyal member of the United Transportation Union, where he stood in solidarity with his fellow railroad professionals and advocated for the safety and well-being of those in the industry. His membership in both organizations was a meaningful part of his life and a testament to his character. Don also enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of the Pine Lakes Golf Club for many years. He really enjoyed bowling as well and was involved in several bowling leagues at Morrow Lanes.
On September 15, 1960, Don married Betty R. (Stoller) in Cardington and she survives in Cardington.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his daughter, Donna (Barry) Baney of Galena, granddaughter, Hannah Baney and special niece Janelle Varveris.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, John Robert Wilson and sister, Sondra Meadows.
