Donald E Wertz

Donald E. Wertz, age 85 of Marion passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at Marion General Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1937, in Fredericktown to Hoy "Pete" A. and Thelma P. (Watkins) Wertz who preceded him in death.

Don was a people-person who always enjoyed working, even from an early age when he eagerly started his first job at age 11 selling ice cream for Isaly's and delivering newspapers. He began his first full-time position at age 18 at Whirlpool after graduating from Harding. In 1962 he was drafted into the military and served 2 years. Don retired from Whirlpool after 40 years, and soon began a second career at CYT that spanned 25 years, finally retiring at age 84. When not working, Don enjoyed spending his spare time at Lake Erie, and following Ohio State athletics.

On December 22, 1962, Don married Marilynn J. Yake, she survives in Marion.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his two sons Jason Wertz of Oslo, Norway, and Joel Wertz of Marion, his siblings Doris Lang of Colorado, Bill (Pat) Wertz of Marion and Dennis Wertz of Marion.

The funeral service will be held Monday, September 12, 2022, at 5:00 PM at
Gompf Funeral Service, 440 Center Street, Cardington, Ohio 43315.
